This movie from 1999 is considered both a documentary and a horror movie, and was directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez.
This documentary of paranormal phenomena is one of the most known horror movies of the last years. In 1994 three teenagers disappeared into the woods in Maryland, USA. The only thing police found a year later was their video and sound equipment. This footage is the film the viewer is watching; the three teenagers wanted to do a documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch, but things didn’t go as they expect.
The movie is really captivating because it’s unbelievably realistic. Three friends that want to film everything mystic they could possibly find, and then discover that maybe the legend, is not a legend. It’s reality. Also, the script consisted only of 35 pages, and the actors had to improvise most of the times!
In 2000 they decided to make a sequel of this popular movie, named Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2; due to the great success, also video games about the film was released the same year, in addition to novels, dossiers, comic books and merchandise.
The Blair Witch Project was an inspiration for several others movies of the last years; many tried to make similar films, but no one could ever outdo the original, that won several awards.

I love found footage horror, REC will always be my favourite though I have recently enjoyed – The Dyatlov Pass Incident, As Above So Below and Skinwalkers, all are worth a view my friend. 🙂
